As the 2024 BRICS Summit is starting today in Kazan, Russia, I shared comments with Tala Michel Issa for Arabian Business about how this summit, welcoming the 4 new full-fledged members UAE, Iran, Egypt and Ethiopia, could mark a significant shift from previous occurances.
“BRICS has a challenge now to morph from a loose collection of countries which could have very diverse strategic interests… into a platform that starts to propose very concrete, solid responses to the current geopolitical challenges”.
“I think this summit will probably be a major switch between the previous summits”. “BRICS starts shifting its focus on not so much condemning what the opposite side is doing, but proposing actual alternatives.”
Watch out for concrete solutions to logistics bottlenecks, energy transition and of course the elephant in the room: the de-dollarisation of international trade…
