On September 23, 2021, an online conference was held on “Indo-Pacific Economic Influence in Latin America: Partnerships, Narratives and Strategic Scenarios“.
Co-organized by Pontificia Universidad Católica Argentina (UCA)’s Centro de Estudios Internacionales (CEI) and Asia Power Watch, and moderated by UCA Professor and CARI Director of the Committee on Asian Affairs Dr Jorge Malena and Asia Power Watch Editor Nicolas Michelon, this event saw presentations on strategic scenarios for China’s involvement in Latin America, with a specific look at Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay, by Coronada Egaña y Cabeza de Vaca of Spain’s GIASP Intelligence & Strategy, a look at the importance of narratives and counter-narratives in the projection of influence and power in the region, by Paul Cobaugh of Narrative Strategies, an update on the regional deployment of China’s Belt and Road Initiative, by Simon Taeuber of University of St Andrews, and the specific case of China’s economic involvement in Colombia through insights on the importance of network dynamics, by Elena Hoyos Ramírez of Asia Intelligence Advisory.
The event was introduced with a foreword by CEI-UCA Executive Secretary Prof. Ariel Gonzalez Levaggi.
